Course Syllabus
Chem 403 Laboratory Manual

Course Description:

  1. Exams and Quizzes:

  2. Midterms(3):  10 problems to be solved in 1 hour .
Final:  The final exam will be cumulative based on material from the entire course.
Homework(5):  This will be assigned and collected, mostly for time-consuming problems.
Quizes:  There will be a number of short quizes ( one-two "simple" questions five-ten minutes prior to the end of lecture or before the lab starts). Quiz dates will not be announced in advance.
  3. Laboratory

  4. Experiments are described in the Chem 403 Laboratory Manual. The particular experiments (each 5% of total grade) to be done and the schedule will be given by the instructor in the laboratory. Reports should be in a format similar to that used for published papers, but much shorter, of course. Please turn in reports as soon as possible after completing an experiment. You may find deadlines for lab reports in the laboratory schedule page.
  5. Grading

  6. The lecture part of the grade will be computed based on 10% for the each mid-term exam,  5 % for each homework, and 10% for the final exam. The lowest mid-term exam grade will be dropped. Since the lowest grade of each student will be dropped, there will be no makeup exams. The same pattern will be used for homework.
The final exam will be cumulative, based on material from the entire semester.

The course grade will be determined by addition of lab and lecture points (100% total).

    Grading scale    A:85%  B: 75% C:65% D: 55%
